Making Online Advertising Work

If video on TV is so much better for capturing attention than online advertising, it would stand to reason that video is the best method for advertising online. With online video advertising in its infancy, the findings by a leading market research firm The Kelsey Group, while startling, is not surprising.

Smallbiztechnology.com just published an interview on September 9, 2008 by Assistant Editor Laura Leites with Keith Wiley, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications at Spot Runner. Wiley stated that “The Kelsey Group, recently released a study indicating that the local online video market will see an increase in growth from $10.9 million in 2007 to $1.5 billion in 2012, a compound annual growth rate of 167.8 percent. At Spot Runner, we’re seeing particularly strong growth among restaurants, jewelers, law firms and professional services companies.”

Why is video better? Movement captures attention (I’m just surprised that they don’t have dancers on IRS tax audit commercials yet, besides the one I always see is so depressing I change the channel); and it’s just easier to watch, than read.

  1. I completely agree with this post. I am a Denver Attorney and i’m working on getting video to my site right now. I think it catches the eye so much and will certainly keep someone on your site much longer!

  2. There is no doubt that online video draws attention and converts customers better than static content. What's amazing is how few legal advertising platforms allow their advertisers to make use of video. I run a family law directory where we enable our advertisers to publish videos directly on their online profiles. To my knowledge we're the only Family Law Directory to do so, and we've gotten positive feedback for it. More notably, however, the advertisers who use videos have gotten much higher phone call rates. The divorce lawyers who use video get almost 300% better call rates.

  3. On line advertising is great- Especially PPC for key terms such as "your city name attorney", or "your city name accident attorney", or whatever. Buy up those terms in your area and it will be power full. Even more powerful though is being the first name that comes to a consumers mind when they need you. This is only achieved by wide marketing campaigns in major forms of popular media – Radio, TV, Bill Boards, (most print is dead), intrusive media like radio and tv reach people at very private points of their day. If your message is heard often and is compelling, they WILL remember you when they need you.
